Youth Service, providing Drama, Dance, workshops, group members, supported, Board, Creative, Partnerships Programme

The Western Education & Library Board's Youth Service has drawn up a packed programme of activities to complement the work of local youth groups in Fermanagh.

From the 10th October last, the Youth Service is providing "Drama" and "Dance" workshops at no cost to youth group members. It is supported by the Board's Creative Youth Partnerships Programme, and it operates from the Castlepark Centre in Lisnaskea, The Bawnacre Centre in Irvinestown, The Lakeland Youth Centre in Enniskillen and Derrygonnelly Youth Club.

The workshops are aimed at 12 - 15 year olds (boys and girls), and are facilitated by professional dance and drama tutors.

Youth groups and individual young people are being invited to put forward requests for courses on "Personal Development for Young Adults". These tailored courses are accredited by Open College Network, NI. They provide a fun based programme of learning and can complement academic achievement with a nationally recognised certificate. Young people interested in this programme should be in the 15 - 25yr old age group.

The Board's local Youth Council is recruiting new members for 06/07. If you are 15 yrs old or above, then this is an excellent forum for you to have a voice in Youth Affairs. Current members are making contact in their schools and local areas, but there's no need to wait to be asked, just contact the number below and come along to our next meeting. A new members' week-end residential will take place 10th - 12th November.

Fermanagh Youth Leaders' Council Competitions also got underway this month. Contact your local club leader about the full programme of events.

Finally, tailored training events are available to those who work with young people, so groups/Youth clubs should get in touch with the Area Youth Office with an expression of interest. Subjects covered include, Child Protection, Games Workshops, Participation and Effective Management.

Young people can find out more from their local youth club leaders or from Richard O'Neill (Senior Youth Worker) at The Lakeland Youth Centre, Tel: 66 326 932 or from Ita Vesey (Area Youth Officer) Tel: 66 343 900.
